Timetable Reflection

Overall the timetable for my thesis has shifted a lot. It took a lot longer to get the basis of the font system down than I originally thought. However, with the basis of the system done, the pace of creating characters has sped up. While I am still behind what I originally planned to be, I would at the vastest think that by mid-April all 3 writing system glyphs will be complete too. Granted this isn’t taken in the time to consider revision and adjustments. So, the goal is by the end of March to have Latin and Cyrillic completed and Hebrew halfway done. This means by mid-April I want Hebrew to be completed, this gives a small window to complete additional items for the SOURCE presentation. Which means more items are going to start to overlap more, I’m planning to go ahead and start in use photos now and creating kerning pairs for the currently completed glyphs, whilst working on the remains glyphs. Due to this set back I am currently sacking the plan to do lowercase glyphs, I still pl...

For Latin the characters that need further adjustments or worked on are: C G J K Q R S T I have started work on the Cyrillic glyphs. A decent amount of Latin glyphs transfer over easily into Cyrillic, which has helped in creating the unifying feel across the two writing systems. An Additional Note: Currently I am not doing lowercase letters, I eventually plan to. However, I want to get the baseline characters of these writing systems completed before moving into additional characters.

VERN FONT ADDED I J L R T U Y NEED ADJUSTMENTS C G I J R T Overall I am getting a better feel for the system. The main struggle is shapes with rounded portions on them. The tail of the R is the thing that I am most concerned about.

Font Update 2/21/20

Over the course of this week, I began to implement the created characters so far into the software Glyphs. This was to help with the quick prototyping of characters within the system. As you can see in the image below, using Glyphs has enabled me to begin typing to a degree with the current system, it also gives me a way in determining the weight of the characters and finding out how to resolve the issue. Based on this image, A, H, and F are a little on the thin side, while B is on the heavier side. Currently, the focus is on round characters, like O, D, C, and G, which is in the sketch phase, with plans to begin producing the characters at the start of the next week. Overall the process is moving slowly on this project, but this week was a lot about the exploration of round characters and the implementation of tools to help make the future of the process go a lot faster.

Font Progress - 2/14/20

I am currently expanding the roster of letters within the font, while exploring multiple variations on varying letters. The O is the least settled upon look so far. I have two running choices for what I think most successfully complete the system I am creating. Over the course of the next week, I am aiming to explore more rounded shapes to build a diversity of looks in the current system. Since right now, only angular and vertical glyphs have been extensively explored

Font Look - Update

Reverse Contrast After reviewing my preliminary design, I went back to get a more concrete look for the font design. I decided on a reverse contrast slab serif look. Some research on a similar look and feels from other typefaces are below.
